
Umno secretary-general Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki, who suffered three election defeats since 2008, may have a fighting chance in the Gerik parliamentary seat when the 16th general election (GE16) rolls around, thanks to his increasingly prominent professional image, analysts say.
Azmi Hassan and Mazlan Ali agreed that a continued strong partnership between Barisan Nasional (BN) and Pakatan Harapan (PH) heading into GE16 could significantly boost Asyraf’s chances of wresting the seat from Perikatan Nasional (PN).
Describing GE16 as a “make-or-break” contest for the former Umno Youth chief, Mazlan said Asyraf’s reputation as Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara) chairman and an approachable technocrat had helped boost his standing.
