In 2023, the High Court allowed Bersatu to challenge MACC’s seizure of the party’s bank accounts after finding that the application was neither frivolous nor vexatious.
KUALA LUMPUR:

Bersatu claimed its two bank accounts seized by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) remain inaccessible, even after the 12-month investigation period prescribed under anti-money laundering laws lapsed in January last year.

In the judicial review proceedings today against the attorney-general and MACC over the alleged unlawful seizure and freezing orders, Bersatu’s lawyer Chetan Jethwani told the High Court that the party should be allowed access to its accounts with AmBank and CIMB Islamic Bank.

He argued that this is because the money laundering charges were framed against Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin and not the party itself.

“The charges are all against Muhyiddin; they are not against Bersatu. The attorney-general’s consent to prosecute was against him,” he said.
