KUALA LUMPUR:

The flood situation in Sabah is improving, with only two temporary relief centres (PPS) still open in the Penampang and Papar districts.

The state disaster management committee said 90 people from 22 families were still taking shelter at the centres as of this morning.

It said the number of flood victims in Papar stood at eight, while 82 people in Penampang were displaced due to landslides.

The committee said landslides in the state had claimed 13 lives so far, while one person died in the floods.

In Sarawak, the state disaster management committee said 16 people from five families were still at the PPS at Dewan Suarah Marudi, Miri, this morning.

Data from the irrigation and drainage department showed that the river level at the Long Teru station was still above the danger level of 8m, albeit on a downward trend.
