
Parti Kesejahteraan Demokratik Masyarakat (KDM) deputy president Wetrom Bahanda says he will contest the state seat of his hometown in Matunggong in the coming Sabah election, instead of defending his seat in Bandau.
Wetrom said this decision was made based on requests from grassroots members in the area.
“It will not be easy, but I am certain Matunggong’s people want the same change seen in Kota Marudu in the 15th general election in 2022,” he said in a statement today.
In GE15, Wetrom took the Kota Marudu parliamentary seat in a shock victory over Maximus Ongkili, who was then the president of Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS), with 24,318 votes over Ongkili’s 16,144.
Wetrom also confirmed that KDM will contest 36 seats in the coming polls, and is mulling a few more.
