
The higher education ministry has denied claims by Jitra assemblyman Haim Hilman Abdullah that international students are prioritised over locals in admissions to Malaysia’s research universities.
Higher education director-general Azlinda Azman ssid local students had always been given priority and were never sidelined when it came to opportunities to study at such universities.
“The assemblyman has repeatedly misled the public about our higher education policy on international students, which in turn confuses the people.
“The fact is, we place strong emphasis on protecting the interests of local students. There is no issue of sidelining them,” she told a press conference at the ministry here yesterday.
